AV Ventures sees better year
Automotive parts maker AV Ventures Corp Bhd expects a better year ahead as sales to Proton Holdings Bhd pick up on stronger-than-expected demand for the Persona and new Saga.Revenue in the first quarter ended March 31 had doubled to RM15.34mil versus RM7.2mil in the previous corresponding period. The increased turnover helped the company turn in a net profit of RM1.1mil, or 2.27 sen per share, from a loss of RM12,000 previously. [The Star]

Government Bans Sale of Fuel to Foreign Cars This Friday
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad said at the Malaysia-Thailand border, the ban involved petrol stations that were 30-50km from the border. He said the ban covered Perlis, Kedah, North Perak, Kelantan and several districts in Johor including Kulai and Johor Baharu. [Bernama]

Govt grant boosts Proton's earnings
RM194 million research and development (R&D) grant received from the government under the "Industrial Adjustment Fund" has boosted Proton Holdings Bhd's earnings in the final quarter of its financial year ended March 31 (FY2008). In the quarter under review, Proton's revenue increased 37% to RM1.72 billion, from RM1.26 billion in the same period last year. Meanwhile, it reported a net profit of RM236.4 million, or 43 sen a share, a huge increase from the small gains of RM915,000 or 0.2 sen a share it posted in the previous corresponding quarter.
