Home inspection service for extra RM100

Want to transfer ownership of your car but have no time to send it over to Puspakom for inspection? Puspakom's Premier Service Unit can come to your doorstep. Just place a call to Puspakom to have the vehicle inspected at home for RM100. From July 1, it has been mandatory for all cars to undergo a Puspakom check before ownership can be transferred. The check was made compulsory to keep cut-and-joint cars off the roads. [New Straits Times]

Premier set to make waves in hybrid car market

PREMIER Hybrid Cars Sdn Bhd, (PHC) the country's sole dedicated franchise hybrid importer and distributor, says it will sell hybrid cars at a slightly lower price than conventional cars. Last month, the government slashed taxes on hybrids, giving 100 per cent exemption on import duty and 50 per cent off on excise duty, a move which HwangDBS feels is part of a wider plan to reduce subsidies on petrol consumption. Detroit Electric to focus on Europe and US markets

Netherlands-based Detroit Electric Ltd is looking to focus on the rollout of its electric cars in Europe and US rather than Asia given the significant tax break and readily available infrastructure in the developed markets, said its strategic programme office executive vice-president FM Chong. While demand and the infrastructure are a problem in Malaysia, given the country's relatively new exposure to the technology, Detroit Electric is prepared to sell its electric cars in Malaysia under the Proton brand. If all goes well with Proton, Detroit Electric will proceed with talks with Tenaga Nasional Bhd on the rates and measures of the energy costs, expected to range between three sen and five sen per kilometre.  [The Edge]
