Chrysler slashing 5,000 jobs as sale talk goes on
As talks over the potential sale of Chrysler LLC continued, the struggling automaker told workers Friday that it will slash 25 percent of its salaried work force and make further cuts to deal with a continued downward spiral in U.S. auto sales. [The Star]

Honda re-evaluating US diesel auto move
HONDA Motor Co, the world's largest engine maker, said it's reconsidering when it will begin selling diesel-powered autos in the US and may not meet an initial target of 2009. "We're still evaluating diesel fuel price trends and raw material costs," David Iida, a spokesman for the Tokyo-based company's US unit, said in an interview yesterday. [Business Times]

Ministry To Draw Up Plan On Bumiputera Development In Auto Sector
The International Trade and Industry Ministry will draw up a plan on Bumiputera development in the automotive sector, the Dewan Rakyat was told Thursday. Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin said an audit had been conducted on the holders of permits for the importation of vehicles (APs) to re-evaluate their capabilities in developing the sector. [Bernama]
